Currently reading:
To Dye For: How Toxic Fashion Is Making Us Sick--and How We Can Fight Back by Alden Wicker
A hard read, forces you to reckon with how much you are putting your body through every time you put on a new piece of clothing that you bought from the stores.
Rogues: True Stories of Grifters, Killers, Rebels and Crooks by Patrick Radden Keefe
An interesting read so far. This book is a curation of his articles from The New Yorker. Very well written and researched.
Finished reading:

A really good read, very in-depth look into the Sackler Family.
Did not finish reading:
Blood Money: The Story of Life, Death, and Profit Inside America's Blood Industry by Kathleen McLaughlin
Repetitive. SHE WENT AROUND THE BUSH ONE TOO MANY TIMES.

TIL about financial hypnotherapy and financial therapy.
They are very real things! I really thought this is a joke.
I learnt about this topic from TikTok. An actual financial hypnotherapist lost a lot of money due to a bank collapse (see Silicon Valley Bank) and basically used her own techniques to heal and realign from the trauma. These are very valid but it’s technically therapy, right?
Is this like fintech bro’s version of going to therapy? 🤔🤔🤔
What is Financial hypnotherapy?
Financial hypnotherapy is to help “put your mind in a better frame of mind and help you better mentally deal with these situations.” It is a safe, calming, and deepening technique that brings you into a very relaxed state where you're able to work on subconscious challenges related to money and success.
What Is Financial Therapy?
Financial therapy merges finance with emotional support to help people cope with financial stress. Financial advisors and other professionals who are certified as financial therapists often provide therapy to clients in order to help them make logical monetary decisions and deal with any financial issues they might be facing. Financial therapy is a specialized type of therapy that requires certification from an organization like the Financial Therapy Association.
You can also sign up for a Udemy course on “Hypnosis: End Your Financial Problems Using Self-Hypnosis” for just $19.98! The “What you’ll learn” bit got me good. I mean “You will be able to attract money effectively using techniques like affirmations and visualizations” so…basically manifestations? The course description is such a READ, it says: “This course is very helpful for failed entrepreneurs and business owners who are facing financial crisis due to multiple reasons.” 👀👀👀👀👀
I’m just extremely skeptical about this. To be fair, I agree that you should seek help from a licensed counsellor/therapist, when you have experienced something really traumatic and have a hard time parsing your emotions and you want to have some kind of “tool” to deal with triggers or memory. But can financial hypnosis/therapy really set you right when it comes to money issues or your worries about money? Is delulu the solulu?
